China Two Sessions 2024 Official Report

The Two Sessions in China, comprising the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), are pivotal annual meetings that set the nation's legislative and political agenda.

The 2024 sessions have drawn considerable attention for mapping China’s trajectory in an era of complex domestic and international challenges. Central to these meetings is the government work report, a comprehensive document that outlines the state's priorities, policy directions, and developmental objectives for the upcoming year.

The report on the work of the government, delivered at the Second Session of the 14th National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China on March 5, 2024 by Premier Li Qiang consists of three major sections. The first section reviews China’s work in 2023. The second section puts forward the overall requirements and policy orientation for economic and social development in 2024. The last section discusses the major tasks for 2024. Through careful analysis, we identified 13 key elements within the report, each capturing a core aspect of the government’s vision and directives. These elements have been developed into 13 articles, aimed at providing an accessible and nuanced understanding of China’s policy landscape as presented in the Two Sessions 2024. Each article features an extract from the official government work report (GWR) to provide an insightful look into the strategic priorities and initiatives set forth by the Chinese government for the coming year.
