Vietnam Trade Trends January 2025
According to data released by the General Statistics Office, Vietnam recorded a trade surplus of USD 3 billion in the first month of 2025.
In January, Vietnam's export reached USD 33 billion, with seven products surpassing USD 1 billion in sales, making up 68 per cent of total exports. Industrial products led the exports, reaching USD 29.4 billion, while agricultural and forestry products followed at USD 2.7 billion. Seafood exports amounted to USD 770 million.
On the import side, Vietnam spent USD 30 billion, with three import categories surpassing the USD 1 billion mark, representing 49 per cent of total imports.
The United States was Vietnam’s largest export market in the month, with turnover reaching USD 9.8 billion, while China was the biggest source of imports, at USD 11.6 billion.
In its latest outlook, the International Monetary Fund estimated Vietnam’s GDP growth rate to be 6.1 per cent in 2025.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a political and economic union, has a population of 667 million and a territory of 4.5 million km². It is currently the third-largest economy in the Asia-Pacific and the fifth-largest in the world. The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) has a combined GDP of USD 4.2 trillion, according to estimates for 2024.
